The Gujarat high court on Friday told the state government to reinstate nearly 700 people to the post of supervisors in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.
The court also ordered that workers - around 4,000 of them - should be allowed to continue with their jobs as long as the scheme was in place. The issue reached the HC after the state government retrenched 700 workers, who were trained and appointed as supervisors under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). The state government decided to carry out a fresh recruitment and all supervisors had to clear a test to get back their jobs, offered on a 11-month renewable contract.
