Foreigner sneaks into airport on fake ticket, held

A foreign national was arrested for sneaking inside IGI airport by flashing a fake Delhi-Frankfurt ticket to see off his girlfriend. The incident, which took place last Monday, has raised security concerns at the airport as the current security plan allows anyone to enter the airport without any frisking or thorough checks.

Sources told TOI a pilot project has been started at Hyderabad airport to find a solution to this menace. Bar code scanners will now be set up at the entrance to identify fake tickets.

Police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials said that people entering the airport using fake tickets has become a major cause for concern. This comes at a time when airports have been put at maximum alert in the wake of the Brussels terror attack and multiple hoax bomb calls received recently.

CISF personnel got a confirmation from the airline that no ticket was booked in Rodriguez's name. He was then handed over to Delhi Police and booked for forgery and cheating.

Senior officials said a strict system needs to be put in place for screening such people as safety of hundreds of passengers is at stake. "IGI is flooded with foreign tourists and Indian passengers during peak hours. Leniency in the security plan may endanger many lives. The issue has been raised many times, but no solution has been achieved," said a senior CISF officer.
