The sordid case of a 14-year-old girl trafficked and pushed into flesh trade, and later found to be five months pregnant, took a serious turn with Madras high court asking Child Welfare Committee to take up the case and consider various possibilities including termination of pregnancy after getting advice from competent medical board.
The case of trafficking and rape will now be investigated by the CB-CID, said a division bench comprising Justice R Sudhakar and Justice P N Prakash, after K-5 Peravallur police said medical report confirmed that the child was sexually abused and raped by unknown people at the instigation of a commercial sex worker.

An order to this effect was passed by the bench on Tuesday, when a habeas corpus petition filed by CWC, represented by its member Sheda Charles came up for further hearing. The matter has to be seriously investigated by police on the basis of a complaint already lodged on July 22, 2015, it said.
Aspy Joyson, member, CWC, who was present before the court during the incamera proceedings on Tuesday, told the judges that she would take necessary steps, including assessing the stage of pregnancy of the victim and other measures that are required to be taken in consultation with the parents, if any, and the experts in the medical field.
