A circular was issued keeping in mind terror threats and misuse of premises Chief magistrate of Metropolitan Court N V Tadvi on Monday issued a circular directing the court staff and lawyers to vacate the court premises by 6.30 pm every day. The staff of evening court will have to vacate the premises by 8.30 pm. The circular has been issued following a directive by the Gujarat High Court.
According to sources, a few lawyers had filed an application in the high court about staff and lawyers using the court premises to gamble and consume alcohol. Following this, the HC had ordered chief metropolitan magistrate to take immediate action.
Issuing the circular, the magistrate said that the city metropolitan court was receiving frequent terror threats. Also several employees and lawyers used the court building long after the court was dismissed. So now, it would be the duty of the court watchman and security chief of State Reserve Police to ensure that every one vacates the court building and the premises are locked.
Ahmedabad Criminal Courts Bar Association president Harish Bhavaniwala and vice president Bharat Shah welcomed the circular. They said, “This has been the first step taken to ensure safety and tackle terror threats. It is a necessary and good step.”
The bar association has put up the circular at places frequented by lawyers and asked for their co-operation in implementing the circular.
