Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Wednesday sought explanation from all 13 grant-in-aid universities as well as from the state government with regards to the alleged non-implementation of reservation policy in educational institutes as prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The allegations for non-implementation of reservation policy were related to the appointment of executive committees of the universities.
A bench of acting chief justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and justice J B Pardiwala issued notices to all concerned parties including UGC in response to a petition demanding proper implementation of quota laws.
The petition was filed by Akhil Gujarat College and University Adivasi Teachers Association (AGCUATA) from Surendranagar district. The association has sought directions from the court to the universities in Gujarat to comply with the guidelines of the UGC issued on December 6, 2005 for the strict implementation of reservation policy of the government in education institutes.
Directions have been sought to the universities to make necessary amendments in the existing reservation laws.
