The Supreme Court has appointed senior advocate Raju Ramachandran as amicus curiae in the hearing of an appeal by Pakistani national Ajmal Amir Kasab, who has challenged his conviction and award of death sentence in the 26/11 Mumbai attack.
Ramachandran, who was the amicus in a petition filed by Zakia Jafri accusing Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and 62 others of their alleged role in the post-Godhra riots, would be assisting a bench headed by Justice Aftab Alam which is hearing the cases relating to 26/11.
His role in assisting the court would be limited to Kasab’s appeal, which is a petition filed from jail. The other petition filed by the Maharashtra government against the acquittal of two accused would be argued by their respective advocates.
