New Delhi: After quashing land acquisition in Noida, the SC on Tuesday set aside the acquisition of 71 acres by the UP government in Ghaziabad’s Hapur district for the setting up of a Leather City after relocating all the bone mills and allied industries there.
Governments are having a tough time in the apex court defending acquisition of land under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, for they have mostly invoked the urgency clause without letting land owners express their grievances.
A bench of Justices G S Singhvi and H L Dattu quashed the July 3, 2006, notification for 71 acres of land in Imotri, Chitoli and Sabli villages of Hapur-Pargana. The SC had in another case directed UP to relocate bone mills as per the Central Pollution Control Board’s recommendations.
