The CBI may investigate Wakf land sale to Mukesh Ambani if the state government gives its nod.
The Reliance Industries chairman has built a residential high rise 'Antilia' on the land on Mumbai's Altamount Road. 'Antilia' is said to be the world's most expensive home. "The state government could consider referring this matter to CBI," Maharashtra's minority affairs minster Arif Naseem Khan said quoting a Union government's letter in his written reply in the state assembly.
"The state sought law and judiciary department's opinion on the issue. The legal department in return has referred the issue to the home department on July 25, 2011." Home minister R R Patil later told TOI, "I will speak on the issue after studying the opinion forwarded by the law and judiciary department."
Khan said the notice served on the trust in 2004 was withdrawn as the trust that ran an orphanage on the land paid the state a penalty of Rs 16 lakh to regularize the deal.
