Supplementary exams: No special admissions, says GU

Ahmedabad: Students who cleared the HSC supplementary exams in the science and general stream will have to personally go for admissions in the colleges with vacant seats. The Gujarat University (GU) has declared that the university will not conduct an admission process for these students.
As per a recent GU merit list, colleges were directed to grant admission to HSC general stream students who were unable to get admission in commerce colleges in the first round of admissions.
With many students who cleared the supplementary exams now eligible for admission in colleges, the GU does not want any more tasks on its hand. It has, therefore, directed students get in touch with colleges that still have seats available.
In Ahmedabad, 1,200 general stream students and 200 science students cleared the supplementary exams. These students had failed in either one or two papers this year.
GU vice-chancellor, Parimal Trivedi, said that primarily, only top colleges were facing a problem since there was a deluge of students seeking admission there. Otherwise, there are many science and commerce colleges that still have vacant seats and can absorb the additional students.

Possible relief

Around 7,000 students who cleared the HSC science supplementary exams might be able to apply for technical, engineering and professional courses. Sources in the education department said students who passed the supplementary exams are not eligible for admission in technical courses. However, they might be allowed to apply for those seats that remain vacant after reshuffling.
