A gynaecologist has been sentenced to simple imprisonment for six months and a fine of Rs.10,000 after she was found guilty of medical negligence leading to the death of a patient.
Alappuzha Chief Judicial Magistrate P. Ragini on Thursday sentenced Rosamma, a gynaecologist hailing from Aluva working in a private hospital in Alappuzha, after trial ended in the case on Thursday. The case was registered on a complaint lodged by Murugan of Chirayankeezhu, charging Rosamma with medical negligence that led to the death of his wife Manju.
Manju was admitted to the private hospital here in May 2004. Rosamma performed a Caesarean on her on May 22 and she died on May 25. The Alappuzha North police had registered a case on the basis of Mr. Murugan's complaint. An expert team from the District Health wing too had found the doctor guilty of medical negligence.
