AHMEDABAD: After the Supreme Court imposed a stay on Gujarat high court order on Monday, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials said that they would resume the sealing drive in the city.
"The Supreme Court order would arrive on Tuesday via fax after which we would start the sealing drive. Meanwhile, a missive has been shot off to the state urban development department requesting their opinion in the matter as the new impact fee bill is pending approval with state governor Dr Kamala," said a senior AMC official.
Approximately 85% of the 1,300 high rises in the city do not meet the requisite fire safety norms nor do they have building use permissions.
"As per the Gujarat high court's order, the CG road shop owners were supposed to identify a large plot of land for erecting a multilevel parking facility. The shop owners' association could not collect the requisite funds, neither did they come up with an alternative site for the parking facility.
After the initial relief by the high court, the recent Supreme Court's direction would force the AMC to resume the sealing drive in the city," said a senior AMC tax official.
