A chef hailing from Bihar who claimed to be the original composer of the Oscar-winning ‘Jai Ho' song from the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire' was arrested on charges of threatening to burn alive the manager of music director A.R. Rahman here on Friday night.
According to police sources, Afroz Rasal Khan (30), of Bediya district, Bihar, went to the studio of Rahman in Dr. Subbarayan Nagar, Kodambakkam, and wanted to meet him. Even as the staff there explained that Rahman was out of the country, Khan who claimed to have composed ‘Jai Ho' remained adamant.
“When studio manager Faizuddin (28) intervened, Khan threatened to burn him alive. Preliminary enquiry has revealed that Khan was in touch with Faizuddin for quite some time. About six months ago, Rahman had even agreed to meet him,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ashok Nagar) K.N. Murali said.
Based on a complaint, police arrested Khan. “He works as a chef in a catering firm in Mumbai. We are coordinating with the Mumbai and Bihar police to check his antecedents. There was no damage to the studio,” he said. Police have registered a case under Sections 448 (trespass), 294 (b) (using abusive language) and 506 (1) (intimidation) of IPC against Khan. The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, police sources added.
