The Adani Group encroached upon 62,900 sq yards of state govt land leased out to salt farmers for 16 years.
Gujarat High Court on Thursday asked Adani Group to pay Rs 44 lakh as compensation in a case related to encroachment of government land in Mundra. The land was given to salt farmers on a 16-year lease. The court has asked the group to pay the amount before April 26 to the Kutch collector. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 27.
The collector had filed an application stating the group had encroached 62,900 sq yards of land owned by the state government and also installed a seawater intake channel for its power project.
DIVERT INTAKE CHANNEL
In the previous hearing, the court also asked the group to divert the intake channel. However, on Thursday, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Adani Group told the court that it would take his client around nine months to divert the channel to the outskirts of the city. But the court observed: “When it comes to removing a small larri, the state government does not take much time. Why does it require so much time to act when the issue is related to an industrial house?”
