Vadodara:Gujarat high court’s Mediation Centre will try to work out a solution to the ongoing strike at the Halol plant of General Motors India (GMI) next Tuesday.
On Monday, representatives of the labour union and GMI remained present at the Mediation Centre but the matter was adjourned for a week. The High Court had asked officials of GMI and representatives of the striking workers to remain present at the Mediation Centre to work out a solution through discussion.
“We had reached the Mediation Centre where there were some discussion in presence of former labour court judge Vibha Anand but now further discussions will take place next week,” a source representing the striking workers told TOI.
The Halol plant of GMI is witnessing labour unrest since March 16 after the Gujarat Kamdar Mandal, affiliated to Intuc (Indian National Trade Union Congress) gave a strike call alleging that workers are being subjected to excess work and the company had violated the Provident Fund Act and gratuity norms and regulations outlined in the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
GMI officials on the other hand are insisting that it has never violated any rules and it follows best practices in the industry. GMI officials have not initiated any negotiations.
