Mumbai: A college-going fashion designer’s gift of Rs 4.78 lakh to her elder sister has come under the scanner of the Bombay high court. The fashion designer, Roshni, is the daughter of deputy income tax commissioner S C Tekwani, who was trapped in an alleged bribe case in 2006.
The sisters, Roshni and Lavina, were made accused in the case along with their father. The siblings, both of whom are fashion designers, had moved the high court seeking unfreezing of their bank account as well as the release of “their” properties attached by the CBI.
Justice J H Bhatia, who was hearing the applications filed by the two sisters, asked how a collegian with no independent income could gift her sister Rs 4.78 lakh.
Lavina, in her application, said that she had earned money from fashion designing, besides receiving cash from her elder sister Kiran, who is an NRI based in the Netherlands. Lavina and Roshni also claimed to have received gifts from relatives.
Justice Bhatia, while partly allowing the girls’ applications, noted that two persons were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2.75 lakh on December 11, 2006.
