According to Times Now, sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation have revealed that underworld crime boss Dawood Ibrahim's gang D-Company is planning to target the CBI headquarters in an attempt to destroy all documents relating to the ongoing probe into the 2G spectrum scam. Mumbai based CBI officials have passed on this information to the investigators handling the case.
The CBI has meanwhile strengthened security measures at the CBI headquarters in Delhi where the 2G papers are being housed. They investigative agency has also informed the MHA and NIA of the impending threat to the case.
According to sources about 3 weeks ago the the CBI was informed that Dawood Ibrahim's gang might target the agency's headquarters in Delhi to destroy the 2G scam documents.
An anonymous source at the CBI revealed that information was passed on to officials at the CBI's Mumbai branch a few days ago that D Company is planning to target the CBI headquarters in an attempt to destroy all 2G scam related information gathered so far by the agency.
Following the tip odd an alert was issued to all the agency's branches and the investigation team was asked to be cautious.
Intelligence agencies suspect Swan Telecom promoter and a main accused in the 2G scam case, Shahid Balwa to have links to Dawood Ibrahim's gang.
Balwa was arrested by the CBI in connection to the 2G scam on February 8 and is currently in judicial custody.
