AMC officially changes logo, makes Ahmedabad Amdavad’

The word ‘Amdavad’ officially replaced Ahmedabad in the new logo of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The new AMC logo with ‘Amdavad Municipal Corporation’ in its insignia was circulated in various departments of the civic body.
“For a long time, the Gujarati insignia in the logo said ‘Amdavad’ and now the change was made in the English version of the logo too,” said a senior AMC official.
The name change happened discreetly just before the Vibrant Gujarat summit. In fact, most AMC stalls at the summit had it in the logo. Labels on all municipal vehicles will also read ‘Amdavad’ from now on,” said a senior AMC official.
“The name of the city on records is still ‘Ahmedabad’ to ensure that people outside the state or country do not have problems relating to the new name. The name of the city does not change as that would require the state government to bring out a gazette notification,”said the official.

Asit Vora had earlier told TOI, “Amdavad has a good ring to it. We will place a proposal soon before the standing committee and then approach the state urban development ministry to change the name.”
