Rais’s arrest could spell trouble for Teesta

Vadodara: The arrest of former Citizen for Justice and Peace (CJP) activist Rais Khan and three others in the Pandharwada exhuming case, could spell trouble for Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) secretary Teesta Setalvad.

While Panchmahal superintendent of police J R Mothaliya said that the arrests were a part of the procedure in the investigation, his deputy and investigating officer PC Joshi said, “We will try to identify who is the brain behind the move to exhume bodies. Some remains were taken away by relatives and we will try and find them”.
The accused have been remanded to police custody for two days for interrogation. They have been charged with fabricating false evidence, causing disappearance of evidence and trespassing a burial place.
Joshi added that two accused in the exhuming case had moved the Gujarat high court seeking quashing of the offences registered against them. A stay was granted on the investigations by the court. The pleas were withdrawn recently following which the stay was lifted.
Two other accused, Ghulam Gani Kharadi and Mehboob Rasul Chauhan, of the six, are yet to be arrested.
