Kolkata: La Martienere for Boys (LMB) has agreed to take back ousted Class IV Srijan Banerjee, who was shown the door after he failed to clear examinations for two years.
The school took the decision on Friday at the prodding of the Supreme Court, which turned down its appeal against the Calcutta high court’s order on October 4, and directed that Srijan be re-admitted in Class V this academic session.
The apex court asked the school to take Srijan back on humanitarian grounds. It also asked the boy’s parents to consider dropping charges they brought against the school as well as allegations against teacher Sanjay Smart. Srijan’s father Partha Pratim had claiming his son had been denied promotion for reasons other than unsatisfactory performance. He had alleged that Smart demanded favours.
Secretary of the LMB board of governors Supriyo Dhar said: “I am yet to get a copy of the order. However, I have come to know about the apex court directive from my lawyers and will take back the student on humanitarian grounds. The school will remain closed for the next two days.
