Court denies bail to member of biker gang
The additional sessions judge refused to release one Mausam Banker alias Montu, a resident of the Ambawadi area. He was arrested by the city police recently on charges of dacoity and other charges like performing stunts on bike on public roads.
He was allegedly a member of the gang that robbed the camera of a journalist after beating him during the Navratri festival. While denying bail to Montu, it was brought to the notice of the court that through him the investigating officer can trace the other members of the gang. The court rejected the bail application filed by Montu after the government pleader, Sudhir Brahmbhatt, argued that the accused and other such members of the notorious bikers' gang have wreaked havoc in the city, putting lives of people in danger and, therefore, he should not be granted bail.
In his bail plea, Montu had denied all charges levelled against him. The bikers' gang that terrorized Navratri revellers is still roaming scot free. Suspected to include children from well-off families, they targeted areas near IIM-A, Panjrapol circles, SG Highway, Nehrunagar and Sahajanand College to show off stunts and attack passers-by. Their victims included the son of an IAS officer, a journalist and three students
