Taking a serious note of the growing incidents of honour killing, the Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Centre, Haryana government and six other states on the steps taken to protect young couples from facing wrath of the khap panchayats.
The notices have been issued in response to a PIL filed by an NGO Shakti Vahini seeking stern action against those resorting to killing in the name of honour.
The PIL had sought a stringent law against honour killing.
